Currently, there are no restrictions on travel between the U.S. and Tanzania. Tanzania had briefly put in place a requirement that travelers would need to present a negative COVID-19 test upon entering the country but that measure was rescinded. As the situation is fluid and out of an abundance of caution, all of our guests travelling for the remainder of the year plan to get tested within 72 to 96 hours prior to travel. Regarding the return trip home to the U.S., the CDC has recently dropped the 14-day self-quarantine recommendation for returning international travelers.

International Flights

All the main carriers (Delta/KLM, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, etc.) have resumed flights to East Africa though it’s been Qatar Airways that has been the stand out for reliability and exceptional customer service.

Qatar Airways offers daily flights to Tanzania from Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC. The flight consists of two segments including the transatlantic segment from the U.S. to Doha and then Doha to Kilimanjaro (a 6-hour flight). You are not permitted to leave the airport in Doha due to Qatar’s travel restrictions but most of the flights seem to have a reasonable layover duration.

The business class lounge in Doha is one of the nicest and largest lounges in the world and you can  purchase access to the lounge if flying economy class.  It’s the ideal place in the Doha airport to rest and relax between flights. The sprawling lounge offers several restaurants, sleeping rooms, showers, family rooms and game rooms. As per a recent trip to Tanzania, Qatar Airlines is not requiring Covid-19 tests on travel to/from North America and guests are being led into the aircraft one at a time with empty seats between travelling parties.
