We Learned So Much…About Animals, About Africa, And About Ourselves.

What an incredible, life-changing experience! We’ve traveled a lot but this was our first safari. From the moment we touched down in Kilimanjaro, Africa Dream Safaris made sure this trip was special.

Matthias whisked us through customs and introduced Elias and Joe, who drove and entertained us…Joe knows the words to every Frank Sinatra song! We toured Arusha, visiting the Cultural Center, residential area and an elementary school, seeing it all through their eyes.

The next morning we flew to the Serengeti and met Thompson, our guide, driver, teacher and best friend. While planning the trip, we were apprehensive about spending so much time in a vehicle with a stranger. Those fears vanished within the first ten minutes! Thompson’s knowledge, personality and passion for Africa added a unique dimension to our experience.

Because it’s a private safari (and we are pretty high-energy!) we were free to start our game drives at sunrise and spend all day among the animals. The first day began with a family of lions, right next to our car! By lunchtime, we had seen cheetahs, giraffes, zebras and of course, wildebeests. So many wildebeests!

For a week, we marveled at the animals of Tanzania in the wild. We watched elephants play in the mud, a lioness teach her cubs to swim (they hated it!), giraffes “necking,” cheetahs stalking wildebeests, hippos leaving an overflowing pool. We spent as much time as we wanted, never any rush to move along. We learned so much…about animals, about Africa, and about ourselves.

Thanks to Africa Dream Safaris (and Thompson’s expertise, fearless driving and amazing eyesight!) for the trip of a lifetime. We can’t wait to do it again!
