The lilac breasted roller is one of the most sought after african birds in Tanzania due to its beautiful pastel plumage and long tail feathers. They are rarely seen outside of protected areas as they prefer open woodlands with scattered trees to serve as hunting perches.
These curious birds eat insects, snails, lizards, amphibians, rodents, and small birds. Lilac-breasted rollers don’t typically migrate, but are somewhat nomadic in search of the best food sources in different seasons and times of drought.
Some of our guests are avid bird watchers and have taken breathtaking close-ups of their safari finds. You can view the best of our wildlife pics in our gallery.
