Extraordinary! Unbelievable! Amazing! Fabulous! A dream came true. The minute I stepped out of the bush plane on Serengeti soil in the Lobo Valley an indescribable feeling of peace and serenity encompassed me. Our guide Arnold greeted us with his contagious smile and wit. I continue to enjoy (nearly 5 months later) the burden-free peacefulness and serenity felt those amazing days during September 2019.
My traveling partner Cheryl and I began our journey from Tampa Florida, using KLM Airlines. We transferred flights in Atlanta and Amsterdam, arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport. After spending 2 nights/1day in Arusha, we entered the Serengeti wonderland. During our respite day we enjoyed touring downtown Arusha and spent time at Shanga House (a must see) meeting so many talented special people. We even made our own necklace’s.
We flew to Lobo Valley on a bush plane. Lobo Valley offered up numerous wildlife viewings throughout our two days there. The special greeting and fare well from Migration Tented camp staff was heartwarming. Not to mention the wonderful tented accommodations and specially prepared meals presented beautifully. We were made to feel very special. By far my favorite lodging throughout our adventure. The sunsets were amazing.
Our next journey took us to the northern part of the Serengeti along the Mara River. Everyone should experience the wildebeest migration. Did I mention the many stops and animal viewings along the way? We stayed 2 nights at a remote camp (Mara River Camp) very near the river. Again, we were greeted hospitably and made to feel welcome. Our first evening there, I was startled by a noise outside our tent. After pulling up the flap of our tent, I was greeted eye to eye by a noisy zebra enjoying the green plant life.
Taking time for one more wildebeest crossing, we stayed on course and headed for Central Serengeti where the Four Season’s resort appeared out of nowhere. Again, the drive there presented so many opportunities. The resort and surroundings are beautiful. However, truth be told; should I ever go again; I would opt for tented lodging throughout my journey.
After 2 nights stay, we headed for the Ngorongoro Crater. Its beauty is like no other. We took some time out away from our animal hunt to visit the Masai Village. The villagers welcomed us warmly with chanting and dancing. This child was intrigued with my camera.
Our final stop was Lake Manyara where we enjoyed baboon, birds and many other animals to watch, learn about and enjoy before our long journey home.
Each location offered up different terrain and beauty. I find it difficult to articulate how astounding the entire expe-rience was.
Our initial planning began with Dawn Anderson listening to our wishes, offering a wealth of information, insight and suggestions. Our planning process began in December 2018 for our mid to late September 2019 trip. Dawn provid-ed a list of the items she packs along with pictures. With the minimal weight limit allowed for the bush plane, pack-ing was challenging. I listened to Dawn and could not believe I was able to stay within the weight limit having the correct clothing and just the right amount. If you have the pleasure of Dawn’s help in planning, listen to her. She knows what she is talking about.
This was by far the best travel experience of my lifetime.
