I have waited to take this trip for a long time. It did not come without considerable research. I decided on Africa Dreams Safari for several reasons. They had the most comprehensive, honest and straightforward webpage and information, they responded to my inquiry immediately, and not the least of all, Sharon Lyon, Mama Simba! I never felt like I was being given a sales pitch. The love of the country and it’s people, culture and wildlife was so evident when speaking to Sharon, that I knew immediately I had found a partner for this journey. Her communication and patience with my many questions was so greatly appreciated. Her knowledge of everything Tanzania was staggering.
I am not a novice traveler and when I say this trip was perfect from beginning to end, I mean it! Our flights were perfect and on time, the African Safari team met us at the airport and got us through the process in 15 minutes and we were on our way. All the transfers were delightful, and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
Speaking of accommodations….. WOW! Who knew staying in a tent would be this exciting! The lions really do roar at night, the breeze through the tent was delightful, and the tents and lodges were fabulous. Wonderful king size beds, regular showers and toilets, (some showers under the stars!) and good food from tent staffs that went out of their way to make our trip memorable. How DO they cook like that in the middle of the Serengeti????
Our guide Ali, was truly a jewel. His knowledge and keen hawk like eyesight made sure we didn’t miss a thing. Great truck with cold drinks and snacks at all times. Learning about his family, his life and his customs was an added bonus giving us insight into the true Tanzania culture. He was awesome, that’s all I can say. We miss him already!
We did take the tour of F.A.M.E. and I’m so glad we did. We even met Dr. Frank. What an extraordinary man and facility he has built to tend to the local people. An inspiration for all mankind.
An 8 day safari is never long enough. I wouldn’t hesitate to go again in the Spring. Even though they are in the rainy season, we only had rain once and it was after we got back from our drive. The weather was perfect. 75-78 degrees, no mosquitoes, no flies, no humidity. Never needed any air conditioning or fan as it gets chilly at night. Not sure how I would like the tents in the summer.
Last but not least, the main attraction… the animals! Everyone had babies! Cheetah, lions, Leopards, Monkeys, Giraffe’s, hippos, zebras, wildebeests. And on and on and on. It was incredible to see the family units and how they protect their young. We saw more than I ever thought possible and we are forever changed by the beauty and spectacle that is the migration.
Thank you African Dreams…it was a dream of a lifetime. And thank you Sharon Mama Simba, for sharing your love of Tanzania with us. We’ll be back!
